  • Career Plans:
As agriculture continues to change with technology and research, I realize how important it is to stay current and up-to-date, allowing California and the USA to remain competitive in today’s quickly changing world market.   I am excited that I will have the opportunity to be part of California’s largest industry.   Upon my graduation, I plan to further my involvement in the Ag industry by applying my education, training, and past experiences to “bridge the gap” between government agencies, opposing political views, environmental groups, and even generations of family.   It goes without saying that water and fuel issues are of utmost concern and importance to the California farmers and ranchers and it will take strong voices to advocate for the enormous challenges that face them.    It will take a confident, knowledgeable individual to communicate a clearly defined agenda and that is where I find my talents and passions lead me.   I believe that I can and will make a difference in the future of the American Farmer.  Though I have, to this point, learned more than I had imagined in school, I often fall back on dinner table conversations where I learned the importance of integrity, hard work, patience and perseverance to achieve a final goal. With the growing demands, adversities, and lack of public awareness, that currently face the  agricultural  industry, I envision  many avenues that I might take in order to continue to promote growth and stability for not only the  corporate farmer but more importantly the smaller, family owned operations that might otherwise not be heard and forced into extinction.   As I continue to concentrate on my education in Ag Communications, I also continue to research and explore areas where I might have the best chance to make a marked impact on the strength and solidity of agriculture throughout Tulare County, California, and the world.
  • Why I Love Farmers:
I believe Farmers are people who sustain the agricultural biodiversity that keeps my family, friends, inhabitants of the world and myself alive. I know for a fact that family farmer’s small scale and knowledge rich systems are environmentally sustainable and consider them to be the world’s ecosystem managers. When I think of my livelihood I think of farmers. Whether it’s cracking an egg open on a hot pan in the morning, carving a pumpkin with my little sister on Halloween, or wearing my favorite cotton shirt, it is on a daily basis that I can realize my dependency of farmers.

I consider myself privileged to have been raised and be part of a farming family. Being raised in a farm/ranch family, I was exposed to the daily operations of managing a citrus operation, hard work, and financial decisions that face the small farmer each day. Where I learned a ring is something that’s made of dirt and sweat, worn on my neck, and is more valuable than the one on any finger. The aggregate of features, traits, and skills that form me as an individual can be credited to my parents and grandparents, who are all people that call themselves Farmers. And that’s why I love farmers!
